Ministry of New and Renewable Energy of India has awarded Nagaland with an award for topping renewable energy purchase obligation.
The award has also been given to Nagaland for being the state with the highest level of renewable energy generation among states of the Northeast.
Union Minister of State for Power, Coal and MNRE Piyush Goyal handed the award recently to TS Angami, the director of the department of new and renewable energy of Nagaland.
Nagaland is the only state in the Northeast which has an independent department for new and renewable energy generation.
The department facilitates project development in consonance with schemes and programs of MNRE.
More recently, Goyal has stated that India will be able to “double its electricity generation from one trillion units to two trillion units” over the next seven years.
He said the government was working toward replacing diesel-generated power with thermal, gas, nuclear and renewable power.
The minister said power theft and technical losses will need to be minimized to create an efficient system that will bring down costs.
