Ameren Missouri has received approval from the Missouri Public Service Commission to construct an 800-megawatt (MW) Castle Bluff Energy Center, a natural gas facility set to be operational in 2027. The $900 million project will serve as a reliable energy backup for peak demand during extreme weather and periods when renewable energy sources are limited.

Castle Bluff is designed to provide rapid, on-demand energy, enhancing grid reliability. Construction begins next month, creating hundreds of construction jobs and permanent positions, while supporting local vendors.

Ameren Missouri acquired the 200-MW Huck Finn Renewable Energy Center, a solar facility in Missouri. Together with previous acquisitions of Boomtown and Cass County solar facilities, the company’s solar portfolio now totals 500 MW, enough to power 92,000 homes annually.

Ameren is also constructing three more solar projects (400 MW in total) in Bowling Green, Vandalia, and Warren County, expected to be completed by late 2025 and 2026.

As part of its 2023 resource plan, Ameren Missouri anticipates investing $6 billion in renewable and dispatchable energy sources by 2028.
