Greentech Lead India: The Union Ministry of Science and
Technology announced the selections for three consortia projects under the
Indo-US Joint Clean Energy Research and Development Center (JCERDC).
The three lead Indian institutions have tied up with
three lead US institutions – National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL),
University of Florida, and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL).
The JCERDC commits Rs 125 crore ($25 million) in funding
in five years to institutions in India and the U.S. for collaborative research
in advanced bio-fuels, energy efficiency in buildings and solar energy.
Moreover, Indian and U.S. consortia partners from
industry have pledged matching funds for this program.
These consortia are led in India by the Indian Institute
of Science-Bangalore, Indian Institute of Chemical Technology-Hyderabad and
CEPT University-Ahmedabad.
The bilateral Indo-US Science and Technology Forum and
the Department of Energy will administer the program.
The Joint Clean Energy Research and Development Center is
a part of the US-India Partnership to Advance Clean Energy announced by the
Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, and President Barack Obama in November 2011.
