By Greentech Lead Team: Apriso, a provider of
manufacturing software solutions, announced that its FlexNet Manufacturing
Process Intelligence (MPI) has been selected by Tesla Motors, a manufacturer of
EVs and EV powertrain components, as an operational intelligence and analytics
solution to complement its existing FlexNet Manufacturing Execution System
(MES).
MPI provides real-time visibility to manufacturing
performance combined with comprehensive operational intelligence data enables
greater production efficiency and cost effective, expanded continuous process
improvement.
Tesla Motors plans to launch its first premium sedan
Model S on the market in mid-2012.
“Tesla Motors delivers exceptionally well-designed
and engineered products. Apriso‘s Manufacturing
Process Intelligence solution can help ensure the highest quality in Model S.
One of the benefits of a platform-based approach to manufacturing operations is
the ease of adding new or updated capabilities,” said Gilbert Passin, Tesla
Vice President of manufacturing.
A challenge facing manufacturers is how to capture and
integrate manufacturing intelligence data when operations consist of multiple
MES applications and instances. IT systems add complexity to data aggregation
and master data management at the enterprise level. Apriso’s MPI addresses this
challenge as applications share a common platform.
By using MPI as an extension of their FlexNet
manufacturing operations platform, Tesla Motors is embedding manufacturing
intelligence into every production process used in both Powertrain and
Manufacturing Assembly, including those of its highly anticipated Model S Sedan.
In September 2010, Tesla Motors implemented FlexNet as
their platform for manufacturing operations. The implementation of MPI reflects
a continued perspective that Apriso’s platform-based approach to manufacturing
operations enables their manufacturing vision.
“We are delighted to expand our partnership with
Tesla Motors by putting in place Apriso’s highly sophisticated intelligence and
analytics solution. Real-time visibility into operational performance
translates into competitive advantage in the rapidly evolving zero-emission EV
automotive segment,” said Fred Thomas, industry director for Automotive
and Cleantech at Apriso.
