Westbridge Agrees Sale of 225 MW Solar + 100 MW BESS Project for Up to C$26.7 Million
Westbridge Renewable Energy has signed a definitive agreement to sell its Red Willow solar-plus-storage project in Alberta. The project combines up to 225 MWac of solar with a proposed 100 MW battery energy storage system in Stettler County. Westbridge could receive total proceeds of C$26.725 million if all milestones are achieved, including C$10.5 million cash at closing, reimbursement or replacement of a C$4.725 million grid-related amount, C$4.5 million when the BESS reaches commercial operation and approximately C$7 million when the solar plant starts operating. Westbridge also has 350 MWac of standalone Alberta BESS projects representing more than 700 MWh, plus 300 MW-class solar projects in its provincial pipeline.
Ballard Completes £275 Million GeoPura Acquisition, Adds 500 kW Hydrogen Power Platform
Ballard Power Systems has completed its acquisition of UK hydrogen-energy company GeoPura for £275 million in upfront consideration, transforming Ballard into a vertically integrated hydrogen Energy-as-a-Service provider. The package includes £82.5 million in cash, 49,584,212 newly issued Ballard shares and restricted units convertible into another 1,084,540 shares after 12 months. Former GeoPura shareholders now own approximately 14.1 percent of Ballard, while up to £27.5 million of additional contingent consideration could be paid if financial milestones are reached. GeoPura’s HPU2 hydrogen power system delivers 500 kW and uses Ballard fuel-cell modules. GeoPura also operates green-hydrogen production and what it describes as the UK’s largest compressed-hydrogen distribution fleet, expanding Ballard beyond fuel-cell hardware into hydrogen production, logistics and off-grid power services.
Deployable Energy Advances 1 MW Nuclear Battery Toward Full-Power and Maritime Demonstrations
Deployable Energy has been selected for two major demonstrations of its Unity Nuclear Battery, representing a material advance from its earlier development agreements. The company will conduct a full-power demonstration at Idaho National Laboratory through the National Reactor Innovation Center and a separate maritime demonstration with Hornbeck Offshore. Deployable previously moved from initial discussions to reactor criticality in just 155 days, according to INL. Its Unity platform is a compact, transportable microreactor designed around roughly 1 MWe of output, with potential applications in remote industry, defence, emergency power and maritime operations. The new demonstrations will generate operating, controls, safety and integration data needed to support future U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission licensing and commercial deployment. Timing details will be announced later.
