Vattenfall Completes 68 Offshore Wind Foundations at 980 MW Nordlicht I Project in Germany
Swedish electricity company Vattenfall has completed installation of all 68 foundations for the 980 MW Nordlicht I offshore wind farm in the German North Sea. Announced November 2, the milestone follows installation of the final monopile in September and confirms that all transition pieces have now been installed. The project is located approximately 85 kilometres north of Borkum. EEW Special Pipe Constructions and CS WIND Offshore manufactured foundation components, while DEME handled offshore installation. Nordlicht I forms part of a larger offshore development that includes the proposed 630 MW Nordlicht II project. First electricity is expected in 2028, with full commissioning of the cluster targeted for 2029.
Vayona Energy Wins 108 MW Wind Turbine Order from Continuum Green Energy in India
Vayona Energy has secured a 108 MW wind turbine supply order from Continuum Green Energy for projects in Gujarat and Rajasthan. Announced November 2, the agreement covers the Kalavad and Devikot developments. Vayona will supply 10 SG 3.6-145 turbines for Kalavad and 20 turbines from the SG 3.4-145 and SG 3.6-145 platforms for Devikot. The contract includes equipment supply, field technical support, commissioning and 20-year operations and maintenance agreements. At Devikot, Vayona will also provide access to shared electricity evacuation infrastructure, including a project substation and extra-high-voltage transmission line. The company was established after the acquisition of Siemens Gamesa’s Indian and Sri Lankan onshore wind business in December 2025.
New York Approves 246.5 MW Wind Repowering Projects with Fewer Turbines
New York State has granted final siting permits for two wind repowering projects totalling 246.5 MW in Wyoming County. Announced October 29, the approvals cover the 136 MW Wethersfield Wind Repowering Project and 110.5 MW Bliss Wind Repowering Project, both being developed by subsidiaries of AES Clean Energy. Wethersfield will replace 84 existing turbines with no more than 34 modern units. Bliss will reduce its turbine count from 67 to no more than 25. Combined generating capacity will increase by approximately 20 MW despite the substantial reduction in turbine numbers. Commercial operation is targeted for 2029. The repowered facilities are expected to generate electricity equivalent to consumption by approximately 43,400 households.
