Sunrun and Tesla Dispatch Record 580 MW from California Home Batteries

Sunrun and Tesla dispatched a combined 580 MW of peak electricity from residential batteries in California on September 9 during an extreme-heat event. The coordinated output demonstrates how thousands of distributed home batteries can operate collectively as a virtual power plant rather than remaining isolated backup systems. At 580 MW, the fleet temporarily provided power comparable with a utility-scale generating plant while helping California manage peak electricity demand. The event represents an operational technology deployment rather than a proposed project. Distributed batteries are becoming increasingly important as California combines very high solar penetration with evening electricity peaks after photovoltaic output declines.

Qair Signs 15-Year PPA to Supply Poland’s Play with 525 GWh of Renewable Power

The Polish unit of French renewable producer Qair has signed a 15-year power purchase agreement with telecom operator Play covering approximately 525 GWh of renewable electricity. The long-duration contract provides Play with a predictable supply of green power while giving Qair contracted revenue from its renewable-generation portfolio. Corporate PPAs have become an important route for financing and operating European renewable assets as companies seek to reduce electricity-price exposure and meet clean-energy targets. The 15-year term provides unusually long visibility compared with wholesale-market sales. For Poland, corporate renewable procurement also creates an additional commercial driver for solar and wind investment as the country’s electricity mix gradually shifts away from coal.

Hep Moves 35.7 MWp German Solar-Plus-Storage Project into Construction

German renewable developer Hep has moved a 35.7 MWp photovoltaic project combined with battery storage into the construction phase. The project adds new solar capacity while pairing generation with storage to improve the timing and value of electricity supplied to the grid. Moving into construction represents a material milestone because civil works, equipment procurement and installation can now proceed toward commissioning. Germany’s solar market is expanding rapidly, but growing midday photovoltaic production is increasing the importance of batteries that can absorb excess generation and discharge later. The hybrid configuration therefore allows the 35.7 MWp facility to operate more flexibly than a standalone solar farm while supporting more efficient use of available grid connection capacity.

Statkraft Completes Sale of UK Green Hydrogen Portfolio

Statkraft has completed the divestment of its UK green-hydrogen activities, concluding a strategic withdrawal from hydrogen project development in the market. The transaction transfers projects and associated development work to new ownership rather than leaving the portfolio stranded. Statkraft has been reviewing activities outside its core renewable-generation priorities while focusing capital on selected markets and technologies. Completion is the material milestone: earlier strategic intentions have now translated into an executed transaction. Green hydrogen remains capital-intensive because projects require renewable electricity, electrolysers, infrastructure and long-term customers. The sale therefore transfers future development responsibility and investment requirements to buyers that intend to continue advancing the underlying UK hydrogen opportunities.
