Australia Records 2.6 GW Renewable Financing and 7.1 GWh Battery Commissioning in H1 2026

Australia recorded financial commitments for 12 large-scale renewable-generation projects totalling 2.6 GW during the first half of 2026, according to a report released October 26. The figure exceeds the 2.3 GW recorded throughout 2025. Eleven projects involved solar or solar-plus-storage developments, while one was an onshore wind project. Australia also commissioned nine utility-scale batteries totalling 2.3 GW/7.1 GWh, representing approximately A$4.3 billion in investment. Battery commissioning exceeded the full-year 2025 total of 2 GW/5.1 GWh. Across generation and storage, approximately 141 projects representing A$32.5 billion were financed or under construction. The development pipeline includes 11.7 GW of generation and 35 GWh of storage.

US Wind Turbine Orders Reach 2.8 GW in Q2 2026 as Developers Accelerate Projects

US wind turbine orders reached 2.8 GW during the second quarter of 2026, the highest quarterly level since Q4 2023, according to research released October 26. Developers accelerated equipment procurement ahead of federal tax-credit construction deadlines. The United States added approximately 5 GW of onshore wind capacity during the quarter, including contributions from the 3.65 GW SunZia wind complex in New Mexico. The latest market outlook forecasts approximately 39 GW of additional onshore wind capacity through 2030. More than half the projects scheduled for 2026–2028 are already operating or under construction. The offshore wind forecast remains approximately 5 GW through 2027, reflecting a more difficult regulatory and investment environment.

Tesla Deploys 13.7 GWh Battery Storage in Q3 2026, Expands US Megapack Manufacturing

Tesla deployed 13.7 GWh of battery storage capacity during Q3 2026, representing approximately 10 percent growth from 12.5 GWh a year earlier. The figures were highlighted in renewable-energy market coverage on October 26. Tesla’s energy generation and storage revenue declined 16 percent to $2.88 billion, despite higher battery deployments. During the quarter, the company started production at its new Brookshire, Texas, Megapack factory, designed for 50 GWh of annual manufacturing capacity. The facility complements Tesla’s existing battery manufacturing operations in California and Shanghai. Tesla also shipped its first Megapack units incorporating lithium iron phosphate cells manufactured in Nevada. Data-centre electricity demand is supporting storage orders.

German Battery Manufacturer Sonnen Files for Insolvency Under Self-Administration

German residential battery manufacturer Sonnen has filed for insolvency proceedings under self-administration, the company confirmed on October 26. The filing applies specifically to Sonnen GmbH, while other companies within the group are not included in the proceedings. Existing management will continue operating the business during the restructuring process. The development comes amid financial pressure across Germany’s distributed solar and battery sector. Sonnen develops residential energy storage systems and virtual power plant technology connecting household batteries into aggregated electricity networks. Its US subsidiary recently reported doubling sales and tripling production output year over year. The company has not disclosed the financial obligations involved in the proceedings or a definitive restructuring timetable.
