Nabors Invests $35 Million in Quaise to Commercialize Superhot Geothermal Drilling
Nabors Industries has completed a $35 million strategic equity investment in Quaise Energy, increasing its fully diluted ownership to 14 percent and making Nabors Quaise’s largest shareholder. The investment forms part of Quaise’s Series B financing and was funded through approximately 392,000 Nabors shares. Quaise is developing a hybrid drilling system combining conventional rotary drilling with high-power millimeter-wave technology to access deeper, hotter geothermal resources unavailable to conventional drilling. Nabors expects the technology to create opportunities for its rigs, automation, engineering and well-construction businesses. Quaise is working toward deployment of what it describes as the world’s first superhot geothermal power plant, potentially opening geothermal resources in locations previously considered technically or economically inaccessible.
Marathon Fusion Demonstrates Isotope Technology That Could Cut Tritium Processing Requirements 10-Fold
Marathon Fusion has demonstrated enrichment of both hydrogen and lithium isotopes using its proprietary plasma centrifuge, addressing two important fuel-cycle challenges for future commercial fusion plants. The company says its technology could reduce tritium flow rates and associated processing-system size by a factor of 10 or more through selective pumping. Lithium enrichment is equally significant because lithium-6 is required for tritium production in fusion reactors. Existing global enriched-lithium output is less than one tonne annually, while terawatt-scale fusion deployment could ultimately require hundreds of thousands of tonnes in service. Marathon’s development is backed by the U.S. Department of Energy’s ARPA-E VISION OPEN program. The company will next develop a commercial pilot facility supporting gigawatt-scale fusion deployment.
Canadian Solar Storage Pipeline Reaches 84.1 GWh as Q2 Shipments Jump 73 Percent
Canadian Solar reported 3.7 GWh of battery energy-storage shipments in Q2 2026, increasing 82 percent quarter over quarter and 73 percent year over year, while exceeding its earlier guidance of 2.8–3.2 GWh. Its global BESS development pipeline reached 84.1 GWh, including 600 MWh under construction, 4.4 GWh in backlog, 7.84 GWh in advanced development and 71.24 GWh in early-stage development. The company also has a $3.5 billion contracted e-STORAGE backlog including long-term service agreements. Recurrent Energy’s solar development pipeline totals approximately 21.7 GWp, with 1.72 GWp under construction. Canadian Solar shipped 3.1 GW of solar modules during Q2, while its U.S. solar-cell manufacturing expansion is expected to raise nameplate capacity to 6.3 GWp.
AMPERA and Lawrence Livermore Develop Thorium TRISO Fuel for 30-Year Microreactors AMPERA and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory have launched a strategic project to develop scalable advanced nuclear fuel for compact and subcritical reactor systems. The partnership will apply liquid-metal-jetting technology to manufacture uniform thorium-232 kernels for TRISO fuel, covering computational modelling, nozzle and material testing, high-temperature processes and particle characterization. AMPERA’s intellectual-property portfolio includes more than 60 patents covering liquid-metal jetting, alongside additional nuclear-fuel filings. The company is developing factory-built subcritical microreactors for data centers, defence, industrial and maritime applications, with designs intended to operate for as long as 30 years without refuelling. AMPERA previously produced a full-scale 3D-printed silicon-carbide demonstration module representing the spherical gyroid architecture planned for its advanced nuclear platform.
