Natural Power Wins Survey Contract for 2 GW Eastern Green Link 5
Natural Power has secured a contract from SSEN Transmission for ground-investigation works on the planned 2 GW Eastern Green Link 5 high-voltage direct-current project in Britain. The assignment covers the proposed onshore cable corridor and will provide geotechnical and geoenvironmental data needed for engineering and development. Physical survey work was scheduled to begin around the end of August 2026. EGL5 is designed to transfer as much as 2 GW of electricity, making it a major component of Britain’s transmission expansion programme. New HVDC links are essential for moving increasing volumes of offshore wind and other renewable electricity between generation zones and demand centres. Although still an early development milestone, the survey award moves the multi-gigawatt grid project toward detailed design and consenting.
Uniper Awards SEK 100 Million Contracts for 115,000-Tonne E-Methanol Project
Uniper has awarded contracts worth more than SEK 100 million ($10.4 million) to advance its NorthStarH2 e-methanol project in Östersund, Sweden, into basic engineering. The facility is designed to produce approximately 115,000 tonnes of e-methanol annually. AFRY, Carbon Clean, Siemens Energy and Topsoe have been selected for the next development phase, which is expected to run for around one year. The project will combine green hydrogen and captured carbon dioxide to manufacture synthetic methanol for sectors including shipping, transportation and chemicals. The engineering contracts represent a material step beyond early-stage development, allowing Uniper to evaluate technical design and commercial feasibility before future investment decisions. The project supports Sweden’s emerging Power-to-X industry and Europe’s demand for low-carbon maritime fuels.
Creos Starts Construction of 17-Km Cross-Border Hydrogen Pipeline German gas network operator Creos Deutschland has started construction of a 17-km hydrogen pipeline in Saarland, marking the first hydrogen pipeline development in the German state. The line forms Germany’s section of the MosaHYc cross-border hydrogen network, being developed with French grid operator NaTran. The German section will run from the French border near Leidingen in Wallerfangen to Dillingen, enabling hydrogen produced or transported through France to reach German industrial users. Construction follows completion of planning and permitting work and represents a concrete infrastructure milestone for the emerging Franco-German hydrogen market. Pipeline networks are critical to converting planned electrolyser capacity into usable industrial hydrogen supply, particularly for steel, chemicals and other energy-intensive sectors seeking to replace natural gas and fossil-based hydrogen.
