EBRD provides EUR 50 million loan for 65 MW solar development in Bosnia

EBRD has approved a EUR 50 million loan to Elektroprivreda BiH (EPBiH) to develop three utility-scale solar power plants in Bosnia and Herzegovina, totaling up to 65 MW. The projects will be constructed on repurposed coal sites, supporting a national strategy to shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy. The investment will finance construction, grid connection, and related infrastructure. The solar plants will use modern photovoltaic technology integrated with grid systems. The initiative aims to reduce emissions, strengthen energy security, and diversify Bosnia’s energy mix. It also sets a precedent for attracting private investment in the country’s clean energy transition.

LONGi and Pertamina partner to develop solar manufacturing facility in Indonesia

LONGi has signed an MoU with Indonesia’s state energy company Pertamina to establish a solar module manufacturing facility in Indonesia. The initiative aligns with Indonesia’s target to achieve 23 percent renewable energy in its mix by 2025 and reduce reliance on imported solar components. The facility will use LONGi’s high-efficiency photovoltaic technology and serve the utility, industrial, and residential sectors. While investment figures are yet to be disclosed, the strategy focuses on localizing clean energy manufacturing, encouraging technology transfer, and creating green jobs. The project is expected to boost domestic solar deployment, strengthen energy security, and support Indonesia’s broader economic and climate goals.

China adds 198 GW of solar in Jan–May, surpasses 1 TW total capacity

China installed 198.43 GW of new solar capacity between January and May 2025, bringing its total installed solar capacity to 1.201 TW, according to the National Energy Administration. This marks the first time any country has surpassed 1 terawatt of solar power. The rapid growth reflects China’s aggressive investment in utility-scale and distributed solar systems, driven by supportive policies, declining technology costs, and strong manufacturing capacity. The expansion aligns with China’s carbon neutrality goals and energy transition strategy. Benefits include enhanced energy security, reduced emissions, and global leadership in renewable deployment. Innovation in grid integration and energy storage will remain key as solar scales further.

Brockwell Energy cleared to build 60-MW battery in Scotland

Brockwell Energy has received planning approval to construct a 60 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) at the former Barony coal site in East Ayrshire, Scotland. The project aligns with the company’s strategy to repurpose former industrial areas for clean energy use and support grid flexibility. The battery will use advanced lithium-ion technology and is designed to store surplus renewable energy and discharge it during peak demand. The investment supports Scotland’s renewable integration and decarbonisation goals. Benefits include enhanced grid stability, accelerated coal-to-clean energy transition, and local economic stimulation through construction and operations on a rehabilitated brownfield site.
