Leeward Renewable Energy (LRE) has begun operations at its 88 MW / 352 MWh Chaparral Springs Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Kern County, California. This system stores excess solar energy for use during peak demand or low solar production periods. The energy will be provided under long-term agreements to Peninsula Clean Energy and Valley Clean Energy. The Chaparral Springs project is part of a broader effort by LRE to expand its California clean energy portfolio to 470 MW, serving approximately 184,445 homes annually.
