Today’s renewable energy news includes announcements on Iberdrola, Iberdrola, Aypa Power, e-STORAGE, Canadian Solar, among others.
Iberdrola Installs First Monopile at Windanker Offshore Wind Farm
Iberdrola has installed the first monopile foundation at its 315-MW Windanker offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea. Located 38 km off the coast of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the project will feature 21 turbines and is scheduled for completion in 2026. The installation marks a major milestone in Iberdrola’s strategy to expand its offshore portfolio in Europe, following its operational Wikinger and Baltic Eagle projects. With a total investment of around €1 billion, Windanker will power over 290,000 homes with clean energy, advancing Germany’s renewable targets. The project highlights Iberdrola’s innovation in offshore engineering, commitment to energy transition, and customer focus on delivering sustainable, reliable, and cost-competitive electricity for European consumers.
Sunterra to Add 47-MW Battery at Bulgarian Solar Farm
Australia-based Sunterra Renewables is expanding its renewable footprint in Europe by integrating a 47-MW battery energy storage system (BESS) into its operational 50-MW solar farm in Bulgaria. The move enhances the site’s flexibility and reliability, enabling efficient energy storage and grid stabilization while optimizing renewable output. This hybridization aligns with Sunterra’s strategy to strengthen its European presence and deliver smarter clean energy solutions. The investment demonstrates a focus on innovation through solar-plus-storage integration, ensuring greater resilience against intermittency and providing value to grid operators and customers. Once completed, the project will contribute to Bulgaria’s decarbonization goals, support the EU’s clean energy transition, and create a scalable model for future hybrid solar and storage developments in the region.
Aypa Power Contracts e-STORAGE for 2.1 GWh of Canadian Battery Projects
North America-based Aypa Power has selected e-STORAGE, a subsidiary of Canadian Solar, to deliver 2.1 GWh of battery energy storage projects across Canada. The projects, expected to be operational by 2025, will significantly strengthen Canada’s grid flexibility and renewable integration. Aypa’s investment underscores its strategy to scale storage capacity as a core enabler of clean energy reliability and peak demand management. e-STORAGE will provide its advanced SolBank technology, enhancing safety, efficiency, and modular deployment. This collaboration reflects both companies’ innovation-driven approach to accelerating the energy transition. The projects will provide benefits including enhanced energy security, reduced reliance on fossil fuels, and support for provincial decarbonization targets, positioning Aypa as a leader in North America’s rapidly expanding battery storage market.
