Hexa Energy Secures 20-Year Offtake for 50 MW Fukushima Battery Project
Hexa Energy Services has signed a 20-year offtake agreement with Tokyo Gas for a 49.7 MW/202.1 MWh grid-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) under development in Fukushima Prefecture, Japan. Under the agreement, Hexa will develop, own and maintain the battery facility, while Tokyo Gas will manage its market operations and optimise the asset in response to electricity market conditions. The approximately four-hour BESS is scheduled to begin commercial operation in FY2029. The project strengthens Hexa’s growing battery portfolio and supports Japan’s efforts to improve grid flexibility, balance electricity supply and demand, and integrate increasing volumes of renewable energy. The long-term arrangement also provides revenue certainty, helping accelerate investment in large-scale energy storage infrastructure across Japan.
Colombia Awards 995 MW of Solar and 100 MW of Battery Storage in 2026 Power Auction
Colombia has awarded contracts for 995 MW of solar photovoltaic capacity and 100 MW of battery energy storage systems (BESS) under its 2026 long-term electricity auction, marking a major step in expanding the country’s clean energy portfolio. The auction awarded 15-year power purchase contracts with deliveries beginning in 2030, aiming to improve energy security, diversify the electricity mix and reduce dependence on hydropower during drought conditions. The procurement attracted strong developer participation and supported the government’s strategy to accelerate renewable energy deployment while introducing dedicated storage capacity to enhance grid flexibility and reliability. The successful auction is expected to stimulate significant private investment, strengthen Colombia’s low-carbon power system, and advance the country’s long-term energy transition goals by increasing solar generation and battery-backed dispatchable renewable energy.
Nofar Energises 146 MW Solar Farm in Romania
Nofar Energy has successfully energised its 146 MW Ghimpați solar farm in southern Romania, marking another milestone in the company’s European expansion. The project has begun gradual power injection into the national grid, increasing Nofar’s connected solar capacity in Romania to 315 MW. The company is also in the advanced stages of integrating a large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) alongside the photovoltaic plant to maximise renewable energy utilisation and improve project returns. Nofar’s Romanian development pipeline now totals 849 MW of solar capacity and 2.27 GWh of energy storage, reinforcing its position as one of the country’s leading renewable energy developers. The energisation supports Romania’s clean energy transition by expanding utility-scale solar generation and strengthening future grid flexibility through integrated battery storage.
