Capital Dynamics Acquires 170 MW / 680 MWh Long-Duration Battery Project in Ireland

Capital Dynamics has acquired a ready-to-build 170 MW, four-hour battery energy storage project at Knockanure in County Kerry, giving the development approximately 680 MWh of storage capacity. The project has secured 170 MW of grid connection capacity at the neighbouring 110 kV Knockanure substation and received planning consent in October 2025. Procurement and delivery planning are now underway. The asset will be among Ireland’s early projects classified by EirGrid as long-duration energy storage and represents Capital Dynamics’ first investment in the Republic of Ireland. The developer sees growing demand for storage as Ireland adds more intermittent renewable generation and faces higher curtailment. Capital Dynamics acquired the project from private shareholders.

Germany Solar Capacity Reaches 128 GW After 17.5 GW Expansion

Germany’s installed photovoltaic fleet has reached approximately 128 GW, underlining the scale of Europe’s largest solar market. Around 17.5 GW of PV capacity was newly installed during the latest annual period cited by reNEWS, maintaining Germany’s rapid solar expansion. The country’s build-out is being driven by residential rooftops, commercial installations and utility-scale projects as Berlin works to increase renewable electricity supply and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. The 128 GW milestone also creates growing requirements for battery storage, flexible demand and grid expansion because larger volumes of midday solar generation must be integrated into the power system. Germany’s continuing multi-gigawatt annual installations make solar an increasingly significant component of electricity generation and a major driver of investment in transmission, distribution networks and storage technology.

Enercon Secures €1 Billion Guarantee Facility From 11 Banks to Support Wind Expansion

German wind-turbine manufacturer Enercon has secured a €1 billion guarantee facility from a banking consortium expanded to 11 financial institutions. The financing strengthens Enercon’s capacity to support its growing order book and execute major onshore wind projects as European turbine demand recovers. Guarantee facilities are particularly important for turbine manufacturers because customers frequently require performance, advance-payment and warranty guarantees during large project contracts. The enlarged facility therefore gives Enercon greater financial flexibility to accept and deliver additional wind-farm orders without tying up equivalent cash resources. The deal comes as European countries accelerate onshore wind permitting and renewable-energy procurement to meet electricity-security and decarbonisation targets. For Enercon, access to €1 billion of guarantee capacity provides additional support for manufacturing, project execution and expansion across its core European markets.
