Today’s renewable energy news includes announcements on Boviet Solar, Ethical Power, EDP, Octopus Energy, Beam, among others.
Boviet Solar Begins Production at North Carolina PV Module Facility
Boviet Solar has commenced production at its new photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturing facility in Greenville, North Carolina. The plant is designed to produce 2 gigawatts (GW) of solar modules annually. A second phase is planned to add another 2 GW of solar cell manufacturing capacity. The facility is expected to create approximately 900 local jobs and represents an investment of $294 million. This expansion supports the U.S. solar supply chain and aligns with the country’s clean energy goals.
Ethical Power Secures Planning Consent for Three UK Solar Projects
Ethical Power has received full planning permission for three solar projects in the UK: Langer Lane, Kirkgate, and Burcot Road. These developments are part of Ethical Power’s broader strategy to expand its renewable energy portfolio in the UK. The company is also involved in other initiatives, including a £7 million debt facility from Triple Point to fund early-stage solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS) projects. This funding supports the nation’s goal of a fully decarbonised energy grid by 2035
EDP Renewables Inaugurates 200 MW Scarlet II Solar Energy Park in California
EDP Renewables North America (EDPR NA) has inaugurated the 200 MW Scarlet II Solar Energy Park in Fresno County, California. This project is the second phase of the Scarlet Solar Energy Park, following the 200 MW Scarlet I Solar Energy Park, which achieved commercial operation in 2024. Scarlet II includes a co-located 150 MW/600 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS), enhancing the project’s resilience and ability to deliver reliable clean energy.
Octopus Energy Acquires 2 GW German Solar and Storage Portfolio
Octopus Energy Generation, the renewables arm of Octopus Energy Group, has acquired MN projects GmbH, a leading German green energy developer. This acquisition secures a 2 GW pipeline of solar and battery storage projects across over 70 sites in Germany. The portfolio includes projects in regions like Saxony and Lower Saxony, areas historically dependent on coal. Once operational, these projects are expected to power approximately 500,000 homes with solar energy and provide battery storage capacity for an additional 150,000 homes.
Beam Appoints Administrators Amid Financial Difficulties
Beam, the UK-based offshore wind service provider, has appointed David Shambrook and Damian Webb of RSM UK Restructuring Advisory as joint administrators.
