Samsung SDI and General Motors to build $3.5 bn EV Battery Factory in Indiana

South Korea’s Samsung SDI has finalized an agreement with General Motors (GM) to construct a joint electric vehicle (EV) battery factory in Indiana, USA. The two companies will collectively invest approximately $3.5 billion in the new manufacturing plant.

The facility, set to begin operations in 2027, will have an initial production capacity of 27 gigawatt hours (GWh) annually. However, Samsung SDI stated that expansion plans could boost the factory’s capacity to 36 GWh per year.
