13. UK Approves 450 MW Solar Farm and 150 MW Battery Storage at Steeple Renewables Project
The UK government has granted development consent for the Steeple Renewables Project in Nottinghamshire, combining approximately 450 MW of solar generation with a 150 MW battery energy storage system. The project is being developed by Steeple Solar Farm, associated with renewable-energy developer RES. The application was submitted in May 2025 and accepted for examination in June. The Planning Inspectorate completed its assessment and submitted recommendations in July 2026. The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero granted approval on October 9, 2026. The decision allows the developer to advance detailed engineering, construction planning and remaining project requirements. Investment value, battery duration and commissioning dates were not disclosed.
Orygen Connects 94.22 MW Wayra Solar Farm to Grid in Peru
Peruvian renewable-energy producer Orygen has completed grid connection of its 94.22 MW Wayra Solar project in Nasca province, southern Peru. Construction contractor PowerChina confirmed that the facility entered operation on September 19, 2026, with completion details announced in October. The solar farm is expected to generate approximately 250 GWh of electricity annually. Wayra Solar has been integrated with the existing Wayra I and Wayra Extension wind farms, creating a renewable-energy complex with 403.52 MW of combined capacity. Following commissioning, Orygen’s solar portfolio increased to 353.6 MW. Its total installed renewable-energy capacity reached approximately 1,461.9 MW, comprising solar, wind and hydropower assets.
Tata Power Renewables Commissions 419 MW in Q2 FY2027, Adding 131.2 MWh Battery Storage
Tata Power Renewable Energy commissioned 419 MW of utility-scale renewable capacity during July–September 2026, compared with 182 MW in the corresponding quarter of 2025. The company also executed 131.2 MWh of battery storage projects during the quarter. Its operating utility-scale portfolio now totals approximately 7.2 GW, comprising 5.8 GW of solar and 1.3 GW of wind, alongside 281.2 MWh of battery storage. Projects executed during the first half included the 100.8 MW Jewali wind farm and Kalasar’s 227.5 MW solar-plus-storage development. Tata Power expects to execute more than 2 GW of additional projects during the second half of FY2027, with a target of approximately 9.3 GW by March 2027.
