New York Awards 1.7 GW of Renewable Energy and Storage Projects Backed by $3.7 Billion Investment

New York has selected projects representing 1.7 GW of large-scale renewable generation and energy storage, with the portfolio expected to trigger more than $3.7 billion in private investment. The awards form part of the state’s continuing procurement of new clean electricity and flexible capacity. The selected developments will advance through contracting, financing and construction following the awards. New York’s power system increasingly requires storage alongside new renewable generation because electrification is raising electricity demand while wind and solar output varies by time of day. The 1.7 GW procurement is therefore a significant addition to the state’s contracted clean-energy pipeline rather than simply another policy target.

Greenvolt Starts Construction of 600 MW / 2.4 GWh Battery Storage Project in Poland

Greenvolt has broken ground on a 600 MW/2.4 GWh battery energy storage system in Poland, which the company describes as the country’s largest BESS. With four hours of storage at rated output, the project will be able to absorb substantial volumes of electricity when supply is abundant and return it to the grid during periods of higher demand. Construction marks the transition of the development from pipeline capacity into physical execution. Poland is rapidly adding solar and wind while reducing its dependence on coal, increasing the requirement for flexible capacity. At 2.4 GWh, the Greenvolt project represents one of the more substantial battery developments currently under construction in Europe.

Valorem Secures €220 Million Refinancing for 192 MW French Renewable Portfolio

French renewable-energy producer Valorem has completed a €220 million ($250.5 million) refinancing covering 192 MW of operating renewable assets in France. The portfolio combines renewable generation technologies and gives Valorem a sizeable new financing package against its existing operating fleet. Portfolio-level refinancing can release capital from mature assets for redeployment into development and construction while extending or restructuring project debt. Valorem is also seeking additional financing as it expands its renewable portfolio. The transaction is particularly relevant because access to competitively priced capital remains a major determinant of wind, solar and battery project economics. The €220 million close provides fresh financial capacity for Valorem’s next phase of French and international renewable-energy investment.

Nava Commissions 100 MW Solar Power Plant in Zambia

India’s Nava Limited has commissioned a 100 MW solar power plant in Zambia, marking a significant expansion of the company’s renewable-energy activities in Africa. The operating milestone converts the development into electricity-producing capacity and provides Zambia with a substantial new source of photovoltaic generation. Zambia’s electricity system has historically depended heavily on hydropower, leaving generation exposed to hydrological conditions and drought. Utility-scale solar provides a complementary daytime electricity source and can diversify the country’s generation mix. For Nava, commissioning the 100 MW project establishes a material operating renewable asset outside India and provides a platform for further clean-energy investment as African markets seek additional generation capacity.
