Orsted and Nuveen Infrastructure have inaugurated the 913 MW Borkum Riffgrund 3 offshore wind farm in Germany, marking the completion of one of the country’s largest offshore renewable projects. The North Sea development significantly expands Orsted’s German offshore portfolio and represents a major new source of renewable electricity for industrial and corporate customers. Borkum Riffgrund 3 was developed using long-term corporate power-purchase agreements rather than relying entirely on conventional government subsidy mechanisms. The inauguration represents the project’s latest material milestone following construction and commissioning. Its 913 MW capacity will strengthen Germany’s offshore-wind fleet as the country works toward substantially higher North Sea generation targets during the next decade.
Inch Cape Completes Second 85-Km Offshore Export Cable for 1.1 GW Scottish Wind Farm
The 1.1 GW Inch Cape offshore wind farm has completed installation of its second 85-kilometre offshore export cable off Scotland’s east coast, achieving another significant construction milestone. The cables will transport renewable electricity generated offshore to the project’s onshore grid infrastructure. Inch Cape is being developed in the North Sea around 15 km from the Angus coast and is one of Scotland’s largest offshore-wind projects currently under construction. Export-cable installation is a critical element of offshore development because it creates the high-voltage transmission route between turbines, offshore electrical infrastructure and the national electricity system. Completion of the second 85-km cable materially advances Inch Cape toward turbine commissioning and eventual commercial electricity generation.
European Energy Brings First Greek Wind Farm into Operation at 27 MW
European Energy has achieved commercial operation at the 27 MW Tsoukes Sarres wind farm, marking the company’s first completed wind project in Greece. The project expands European Energy’s generation footprint into another southern European renewable market and converts the development from construction into revenue-generating capacity. Greece has accelerated deployment of wind, solar and storage as it reduces reliance on fossil-fuel generation and strengthens electricity interconnections with neighbouring markets. The 27 MW commercial-operation milestone is significant because European Energy is already developing renewable assets across numerous European markets and has been increasing its exposure to Greece. Tsoukes Sarres now becomes an operating part of that portfolio rather than remaining within the company’s development pipeline.
