Siemens Energy has signed an agreement to acquire Camlin Group, a Northern Ireland-based provider of grid monitoring, analytics, and asset digitalization technologies, as the company seeks to strengthen its position in the rapidly growing digital power grid market.
The acquisition, subject to regulatory approvals, is expected to be completed before the end of 2026. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The move comes at a time when utilities worldwide are increasing investments in power transmission and distribution networks to support electrification, renewable energy integration, and energy security objectives. Aging grid infrastructure, rising electricity demand, and growing load volatility are driving demand for advanced digital technologies that enable real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, and faster fault detection.
By integrating Camlin Group’s expertise, Siemens Energy aims to enhance its digital grid portfolio with advanced sensor-based monitoring solutions, data analytics capabilities, and software-driven grid intelligence technologies. The acquisition will help utilities improve asset performance, reduce downtime, and transition from traditional maintenance approaches to condition-based operations powered by real-time data.
Headquartered in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, Camlin Group employs approximately 650 people and operates across the UK, Europe, North America, Australia, and Asia. The company generates annual revenue of more than £90 million. Founded in 2010 by a team of engineers, Camlin has built a strong reputation for delivering innovative solutions for the energy and rail sectors.
Tim Holt, Member of the Executive Board of Siemens Energy, said grid expansion and digitalization are becoming critical for energy security, economic growth, and the global energy transition. He noted that Camlin Group’s expertise in software, monitoring technologies, and engineering talent will complement Siemens Energy’s existing portfolio and help customers adopt more data-driven asset management strategies.
Camlin Group CEO Peter Cunningham said the partnership aligns with the company’s long-term vision for the future grid. He emphasized that customers will continue to receive uninterrupted service and that the existing leadership team will remain in place. Cunningham added that Siemens Energy’s global reach, scale, and investment capabilities will accelerate innovation and support growth across key international markets. The acquisition reflects a broader industry trend toward digitalization of electricity networks as utilities increasingly deploy intelligent monitoring systems, automation platforms, and analytics tools to improve grid reliability and accommodate rising renewable energy capacity.
