LG Energy signs EV battery deal with Aptera Motors

LG Energy Solution has partnered exclusively with Aptera Motors Corp., a pioneer in solar electric vehicles, to supply 2170 cylindrical batteries from 2025 to 2031.

This collaboration, formalized through an MoU at CES 2025, includes CTNS, a battery module and pack manufacturer. The partnership focuses on battery supply, manufacturing excellence, and seamless integration to support the production of Aptera’s solar EV, set to launch in the U.S. in 2025.

The solar EV boasts exceptional efficiency, with a range of 643 km (400 miles) per charge and solar panels capable of powering up to 64 km (40 miles) per day. Built with recyclable materials, the lightweight carbon fiber structure and no-welding assembly enhance cost-effectiveness and sustainability. The 4.4GWh battery supply features LG Energy Solution’s high-performance NCMA cathodes, proprietary Safety Reinforced Separator (SRS®), and advanced safety measures.

LG Energy Solution continues to lead in cylindrical battery technology and plans to boost its competitiveness with the mass production of 46-series batteries in Arizona by 2026. Executives from LG Energy Solution, Aptera, and CTNS highlighted the partnership’s significance in advancing sustainable transportation and innovation in the EV industry.
