TotalEnergies and Vanguard Renewables broke ground on the Oakmulgee Dairy Farm renewable natural gas (RNG) project in Amelia Court House, Virginia.

The farm will produce over 259,000 MMBtu/year of renewable gas using an anaerobic digester, diverting 105,000 tons of food and beverage waste annually from landfills or incineration.

The RNG produced will be used to fuel AstraZeneca’s biopharmaceutical production facilities in Maryland.

This is part of a larger 50-50 joint venture between TotalEnergies and Vanguard Renewables, aimed at developing RNG projects across the U.S., with 10 projects already under construction and a potential pipeline of 60 additional projects.

The Oakmulgee project is among several RNG initiatives in Virginia, Wisconsin, and Minnesota, supporting TotalEnergies’ target to lead the fast-growing renewable gas market in the U.S.

TotalEnergies has a longstanding U.S. presence, expanding its multi-energy strategy to provide clean, low-emission energy, with a focus on biogas as a sustainable solution for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

TotalEnergies is a leading company in the European biogas segment with production capacity of 1.1 TWh.
