Novelis, the global leader in aluminum rolling and recycling, recently announced the establishment of its solar park at its production site in Pieve Emanuele, Italy.

The local authorities have granted approval for the construction of this expansive solar park, covering over 28,000 square meters, with plans to commence electricity generation by the end of this year.

With an investment of $2.4 million, Novelis aims to decarbonize its production in Pieve while supporting the development of sustainable and low-carbon aluminum solutions for the European market.

The solar park, expected to produce 4,000 MWh annually, will allow the facility to transition a significant portion of its energy sources from carbon-intensive to renewable alternatives, reducing its reliance on external power sources.

Situated in the southern region of Milan, Novelis’ Pieve plant provides an ideal location for the installation of a solar park due to its ample unoccupied space and favorable solar exposure.

As part of its broader environmental goals, Novelis aims to decrease its carbon footprint by 30 percent by 2026 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 or even earlier.
