National Solar Mission to undertake 4 mega solar power projects in 2014-15

National Solar Mission will undertake four ultra mega solar power projects in 2014-15, said India’s finance minister P Chidambaram, presenting his interim Union Budget in Parliament on Monday.

There are no sops for the green technology sector in the vote on account 2014 presented by the UPA government today.

The finance minister also said: “We must focus on manufacturing, specially manufacturing for exports.”

The government also announced that the excise duty will be cut from 12 to 10 per cent in capital goods sector to stimulate growth.

He said India’s power capacity rises to 234,600 MW in 10 years.

After exceeding the target and achieving 1,684 MW of grid connected solar power, the National Solar Mission entered the second phase on 1.4.2013. It is proposed to take up four ultra mega solar power projects each with a capacity of over 500 MW in 2014-15.
