Vestas signs 56 MW order in Italy

By Greentech Lead Team: Vestas, a wind turbine
manufacturer, has received an order from Tozzi TRE, a developer of renewable
energy generating plants, to install 28 units of the V90-2.0 MW platform for
the Castellaneta wind farm in Italy.

“The 2 MW platform is the industry’s most proven
turbine ‘family’ with more than 9,300 installations worldwide. This means high
reliability, low operational downtime and high performance,” said Juan
Araluce, Vestas Mediterranean president and global chief sales officer, Vestas
Wind Systems.

Under the terms of the contract, Vestas will install wind
turbines and a VestasOnline Business SCADA system for the wind farm. Shipping
of the first turbines is scheduled to start during the second quarter of 2012
and the project is expected to be commercially operational before the end of
2012.

The Castellaneta wind power plant will produce
approximately 162,000 MWh per year, enough electricity to cover the residential
electricity consumption of more than 143,000 people in Italy and will offset
63,000 tons of CO2emissions annually.

Vestas
will also provide a 12-year service and maintenance under an AOM 4000 agreement
(Active Output Management).

“It is a pleasure for us to announce the first order
received from Tozzi TRE and we look forward to a fruitful cooperation in the
future. There is still a great potential for further development across Italy,
which can bring green renewable energy, as well as employment and economic
benefits to local communities,” said Rainer Karan, managing director of
Vestas Italia.

Wind power from Vestas’ more than 46,000 wind turbines currently reduces carbon
emissions by approximately 50 million tons of CO2every year, while at the same
time building energy security and independence.

Last year, Vestas received
an order for delivery of 13 V90-2.0 MW wind turbines for the Lucera wind farm
in Apulia, Italy.
