RWE has strengthened its position in Italy’s clean energy market after securing four new renewable energy projects in the latest FER-X auction. The contract for difference award covers a combined capacity of 68 megawatts across three regions – Basilicata, Campania and Sicily – with construction scheduled to begin in 2026.

The awarded projects include the Serra Giannina wind farm in Potenza, Basilicata, which will feature six turbines and deliver 42 megawatts. In Campania, RWE will develop the Ponte Valentino 1 and Ponte Valentino 2 solar plants in Benevento, comprising around 32,000 modules and a total capacity of 17.65 MWac. In Sicily, the company will build the 8 MWac Carcitella Agri-PV plant, equipped with approximately 13,000 high-tracker solar modules to support dual land use.

Katja Wünschel, CEO of RWE Renewables Europe and Australia, said the result marks a major step forward for the company’s Italian growth strategy. She noted that the win includes RWE’s 20th onshore wind farm in the country and underscored the importance of aligning auction prices with real technology costs to accelerate Italy’s energy transition.

RWE continues to expand its renewable footprint in Italy through an integrated project model that spans development, construction, operations and energy marketing. The company currently operates 17 onshore wind farms with a total capacity of 598 megawatts, supplying clean electricity to more than 500,000 households. Its portfolio also includes commercial-scale Agri-PV plants Morcone and Acquafredda in Campania. In addition, construction is underway on the 47 megawatt Serra Palino wind farm in Apulia and the 45 megawatt Venusia wind farm in Basilicata.

Beyond the FER-X success, RWE recently won three Agri-PV projects totalling 30.2 megawatts in Italy’s latest dedicated auction, reinforcing its commitment to supporting the country’s renewable energy goals and expanding sustainable power generation across diverse regions.
