RWE secures two more onshore wind projects in France’s latest bidding round

RWE job in finance

RWE has strengthened its presence in the French renewable energy market by securing two additional onshore wind projects in the latest competitive bidding round organized by the French Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE). The two projects – Balinot and Langonnet – are fully owned by RWE and have a combined capacity of 21.6 megawatts (MW).

RWE wins in CRE’s 10th onshore wind tender

The CRE recently announced the results of the 10th round of the Multiannual Energy Program (PPE2) for onshore wind, which targeted a total capacity of 925 MW. More than 90 projects were submitted, but only 42 were selected, representing a total of 952.8 MW awarded at an average price of €86.6 per megawatt-hour (MWh).

RWE successfully secured two of these 42 projects:

Balinot Wind Project (Oise department) – 10.8 MW capacity

Langonnet Wind Project (Morbihan, Brittany) – 10.8 MW capacity

Each project will consist of three wind turbines and will collectively generate enough renewable electricity to power over 15,000 households.

Strengthening RWE’s footprint across French regions

The Balinot project enhances RWE’s regional presence in the Oise department in northern France, while the Langonnet project further expands the company’s development footprint in Brittany. Both locations benefit from strong wind conditions and community engagement, aligning with RWE’s long-term growth strategy in the French renewable energy sector.

Katja Wünschel, CEO of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, said:

“I would like to congratulate all the teams who contributed to RWE’s success in this tender. The consistency of our achievements, tender after tender, reflects the strength of our long-term strategy and the dedication of our teams to developing high-quality projects across France.”

A dynamic year for RWE in France

The year 2025 has been a strong one for RWE’s renewable energy growth in France. The company commissioned more than 83 MW of wind and solar projects in recent months. Additionally, RWE secured 82 MW in the CRE’s 2024 onshore wind tenders and, with these latest wins, has now reached a total of 172.6 MW of onshore wind capacity and 19.6 MWac of solar capacity awarded in the 2025 CRE tenders.

This strong performance consolidates RWE’s position among the top developers driving France’s energy transition.

Expanding renewable energy portfolio in France

Since entering the French market in 2020, RWE has built a robust development pipeline of approximately 1.6 gigawatts (GW) of onshore wind projects and 1 GWp of solar projects at various stages of development. Out of this, 408 MW have been awarded in CRE tenders, and 275 MW have already been commissioned.

RWE’s ongoing success in competitive tenders highlights its growing role in supporting France’s renewable energy targets and accelerating the shift toward low-carbon electricity generation.

Summary:

RWE secured two new wind projects totaling 21.6 MW in France’s latest CRE bidding round.

The projects, Balinot (Oise) and Langonnet (Morbihan), will power over 15,000 households.

RWE’s total awarded capacity in 2025 tenders now stands at 172.6 MW of wind and 19.6 MWac of solar.

The company continues to expand its renewable footprint with over 2.6 GW of projects in France. Baburajan Kizhakedath
