The onshore wind bidding round (AO 14) results, published by the French Commission for the Regulation of Energy (CRE), have showcased significant achievements, with RWE emerging as a key player in the business.
With a selected capacity of 1007 megawatts (MW) at an average price of 87.23 euros per megawatt-hour (MWh), this round marks a notable milestone in France’s renewable energy transition.
RWE has demonstrated its prowess in the sector by securing contracts for eight projects totaling 108.7 MW, positioning the group as a leading recipient of awards. This accolade solidifies RWE’s status as the foremost company in terms of awarded projects and the second-largest developer in awarded capacity. Notably, this success builds upon RWE’s already impressive track record as one of the most awarded operators in 2023.

Katja Wunschel highlighted the company’s commitment to developing top-tier projects across France, aimed at delivering safe, low-carbon, and competitive energy solutions amidst the rapidly evolving energy transition landscape.
The eight projects secured by RWE are predominantly situated in northern France, spanning the Hauts-de-France and Normandy regions. With initial commissioning anticipated in 2025 and operations slated to continue until 2028, these projects are poised to contribute significantly to France’s renewable energy objectives.
Since its entry into the French market in late 2020, RWE has made substantial strides, commissioning 185 MW of renewable energy capacity to date. The company is actively engaged in developing over 1.3 GW of onshore wind projects and nearly 800 MWp of solar projects across France. Additionally, RWE’s commitment to the energy transition extends to participation in all French offshore wind tenders, underscoring its dedication to expanding green technology capacity globally.
With aspirations to reach a total green technology capacity of 65 GW by 2030, RWE has outlined ambitious investment plans, earmarking €55 billion between 2024 and the end of the decade. As a leading proponent of sustainable energy solutions, RWE remains steadfast in its mission to drive the global transition towards a cleaner, more sustainable future.
