RWE has conducted a ground-breaking ceremony at the Port of Thorsminde to start the construction for RWE’s service base supporting the Thor offshore wind farm, set to be Denmark’s largest with over 1 GW of capacity.
Thorsminde was chosen for its proximity —22 km from the wind power farm — making it ideal for the operations and maintenance base. The new facility will support up to 60 permanent jobs and contribute to the local economy.
The service building will span 2,300 square meters across three floors and include a control room, office spaces, warehousing, and a rooftop terrace with views of the North Sea and the Nissum Fjord.
The building’s design, incorporating fibre-reinforced concrete and Corten steel, is built to withstand harsh North Sea conditions while blending with the surrounding environment.
The wind power project will create 50-60 jobs in Thorsminde, a town of about 300 residents, boosting local development and supporting Denmark’s green transition.
Construction of Thor is well underway, including land cable laying and substation development. Installation of the 72 turbines is scheduled for 2026, with the farm fully operational by 2027. Thor will power over one million Danish households.
RWE operates 19 offshore wind farms globally and aims to triple its offshore wind capacity from 3.3 GW to 10 GW by 2030, further solidifying its leadership in renewable energy.
