Masdar deal to develop 1 GW wind farm in Mingbulak, Uzbekistan

Masdar, the UAE’s clean energy company, and Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Energy have signed a deal to develop a 1-gigawatt (GW) wind farm in Mingbulak, Uzbekistan.

This wind farm will create 1,000 jobs during construction and 60 jobs during operation, supplying clean energy to around 300,000 homes once operational. Financial details were not disclosed.

The project marks the start of a larger strategy to establish three wind farms in Uzbekistan, furthering the long-term partnership between Masdar and Uzbekistan.

The signing took place at COP29 in Baku, with UAE officials Sultan Al Jaber and Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, and Uzbekistan’s Energy Minister Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov present.

The 1GW wind farm adds to Masdar’s existing projects in Uzbekistan, including solar plants and the 500MW Zarafshan Wind Farm.

The UAE and Uzbekistan aim to boost renewable energy and reduce emissions, aligned with global climate goals and the UAE’s objective to triple renewable energy capacity by 2030.

Since 2006, Masdar has developed renewable projects worldwide and aims to reach a renewable capacity of 100GW and become a green hydrogen leader by 2030.
