The Leeds will witness a major change with the tallest wind turbine being established in the city.

It will be of 123m higher than Bridgewater Place providing a major source of power for Yorkshire Water’s Knostrop Lane.

The tower itself is 256ft (78m) high, the three blades of the turbine weigh seven tonnes each and have a diameter of 295ft (90m).

Once the plant becomes operational in November, it is expected to reduce city’s carbon footprint and operating costs. One blade is already in place and the remaining two will soon be installed over the weekend.

The wind turbine will help minimize Yorkshire Water customers’ energy bills. It will be like building a giant Meccano set, said, Tom Hall, Kelda Water.

The increase in wind speeds at height will allow the volume of renewable energy generation from the turbine to be maximized and we hope once built it will become a landmark for the Leeds area, added Hall.
