Gamesa has announced the supply of 34 wind turbines to Guirapa wind complex in northeastern Brazil.

Guirapa is a joint venture between energy developer Sequoia Energia and utility Cia. Hidroeletrica do Sao Francisco.

Gamesa will provide equipment for a total 68 megawatts of capacity for the wind complex.

Gamesa is the second largest wind turbine supplier in Brazil with a 16 percent share of the market.

A Spain-based company, Zamudio, has won orders for the supply of more than 700 megawatts in Brazil.

Last week, Gamesa agreed to supply equipment with 231 megawatts of capacity to Brazil’s CPFL Energias Renovaveis SA.

Wind energy is now the fastest growing source of power generation in Brazil. The total volume of wind energy contracted in 2013 has contributed to the generation of more than 70,000 jobs, R$ 21,2 billion in investments, 8,5 million houses were supplied with electricity avoiding 4 million tons of carbon.

In 2013, Brazil made total wind power contract for 4,7 GW. The potential for wind power in Brazil is estimated at 300 GW and the expectations are to contract at least another 2GW per year until 2020, adding over 20GW of wind energy to the market.
