Tesla remained the world’s leading producer of battery energy storage systems (BESS) in 2024, securing a 15 percent global market share, according to Wood Mackenzie’s Global Battery Energy Storage System Integrator Ranking 2025. While Tesla held onto the top spot for the second consecutive year, Chinese rival Sungrow significantly narrowed the gap, capturing 14 percent of the global market — just one percentage point behind.

The ranking reflects a tightening race among BESS integrators amid shifting regional dynamics. CRRC held third place globally with 8 percent market share, keeping the top three positions unchanged from the previous year.

Regionally, Tesla dominated North America with a 39 percent market share, while Sungrow led Europe with a sharp rise to 21 percent. In Asia, CRRC retained its leadership, followed by Sungrow and Envision. China-based companies now represent seven of the global top ten integrators, illustrating their rising global influence despite facing setbacks in the U.S. market due to trade tensions and protectionist policies.

In 2024, Tesla led the global battery energy storage system (BESS) integrator market, followed closely by Sungrow and CRRC.

Regionally, Tesla maintained its leadership in North America, with Sungrow and Powin in second and third places.

In the Asia Pacific region, CRRC was the top integrator, followed by Sungrow and Envision.

Europe saw Sungrow take the lead, ahead of Nidec and Tesla. In the Middle East, Sungrow again held the top position, with BYD and Huawei rounding out the top three.

These rankings reflect shifting competitive dynamics driven by regional demand, trade policies, and market access strategies, Wood Mackenzie said.
