Welspun commissions 795KW of solar projects across India

Welspun Energy of India has entered into a large-scale solar rooftop sector, by finishing the construction of three projects located in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana in record time.

Having a growing capacity of 795 KW, Welspun is trying to reduce the carbon footprint through the generation of around 1,174,000 kWh of clean energy every year.

The project has been initiated with an aim to address the power requirements of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur – 192kWp, Ansal University – 100kWp and Medanta Medicity Hospital located in Gurgaon, Haryana – 500kWp.

DON’T MISS : Welspun to invest Rs 15,000 crore in solar and wind in India

These institutes follow standard sustainable operations and the energy generated from these rooftop solar installations will help lower their conventional energy consumption, enabling cost-efficiency.

The 100 kW Ansal University project will be beneficial for around 2000 users as well as the 192 KW plant at IIT Kanpur will be useful for the faculty and students to carry out their experiments in a cost-efficient manner.

The Medanta Medicity project is the largest among the three and is built over two parking lots that can house over 300 cars in a go.

This project uses Global Tier 1 solar technology to achieve optimum conversion efficiency.

The solar rooftop business presents interesting opportunities of growth and is bound to be the next big thing in the solar energy business. It is also heartening to see that more and more institutions are seriously taking accountability towards the environment by opting for clean energy generation, said, Vineet Mittal, MD, Welspun Energy.

In another initiative, WEPL has entered into an EPC contract with Maharashtra State Power Generation for developing a mega 50 MW ground mounted solar project on a PPP model.

The company has commissioned 328 MW of Solar PV projects on a turnkey basis before the scheduled time

Currently, the company is executing mega solar and wind projects in five states of India, with a target of developing cumulative 1.75 GW of renewable capacity in next three years.
