Suntech to power Malaysian villages with 7.5 MW Off-Grid projects

Wuxi Suntech, the PV module manufacturers, has announced the supply of PV panels for 7.5 MW capacity off-grid projects for electric supply in rural areas of Malaysia.

The Rural Solar Hybrid Electricity Project for Villages and Schools in the Interior is an initiative undertaken by the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development.

This recently launched revolutionary project will go through several phases of construction and the completion is expected by 2017. The first phase consists of 960 kW power supply to three schools, SK Nanga Metah, SK Nanga Janan and SK Sungai Tunoh along with 20 surrounding villages.

The subsequent phases of the project will generate 7.5 MW of electricity that will be supplied to more areas.

The PV modules will be part of a micro-grid system set that provide 24 hour electricity to schools and surrounding villages in Sarawak . The system will be made of Suntech’s VDE Quality Tested modules.

SunTech in partnership with Helios Photovoltaics is using diesel generators and German battery packs to support the PV Modules. Many locations included in the project are accessible through boat or helicopter only.

Besides, these micro-grid systems will help to reduce diesel costs and cut 10,000 tons of carbon emissions every year.

Suntech will provide one-stop access to the Shunfeng family of companies with capabilities in design, engineering, manufacturing, construction, finance, insurance, operation and maintenance, energy storage, solar products and applications.
