RWE, a leading renewable energy company in Europe, has commenced construction of a utility-scale solar project in Poland.
The Borek solar project, located in the Lubuskie voivodeship, will feature three solar farms with a combined capacity of 24 MWac. The installation will consist of approximately 40,000 ground-mounted photovoltaic panels and is expected to provide clean energy to around 10,500 Polish households annually.
This development marks another step forward in RWE’s renewable expansion in Poland, following the commissioning of its first solar farm from a 100 MWac project pipeline in June. The company plans to complete and commission the Borek project in the second half of 2025.
“Borek solar project is the next milestone in our journey to leverage Poland’s sunny conditions with great sites for solar energy. As a major player in the Polish renewables market for more than 15 years, RWE is keen to further develop, construct, and operate solar and wind farms in Poland,” Katja Wunschel, CEO of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, said.
RWE has an extensive renewable energy footprint in Poland, operating wind farms with a total capacity of 541 MW and solar farms with 54 MWac. Along with its solar expansion, the company is also developing Poland’s first offshore wind project, the F.E.W. Baltic II wind farm, further solidifying its role as a key driver in the country’s energy transition.
