Greentech Lead America: First Solar has started the
installation of the solar modules at the 230-megawatt AC Antelope Valley Solar
Ranch One power plant in Los Angeles County. The plant consist of 3.8 million
of 2-foot by 4-foot thin film photovoltaic (PV) modules.
First Solar and Public Works worked to achieve agreement
on code certifications to ensure that all applicable building codes were met by
the project.
Antelope Valley Solar Ranch One is spread across on 2,100
acres of former farmland and is one of the largest construction projects under
way in Los Angeles County.
The construction of the plant is expected to complete in
2013. The plant is currently providing more than 385 construction
jobs.
The PV power plant is expected to generate enough
electricity to power 75,000 average California homes. The plant will also
offset approximately 140,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually, the equivalent
of taking 30,000 cars off the road each year.

in a region with enormous potential for solar energy development,” said
