CleanMax Solar announced it has commissioned Karnataka’s first solar farm, and has begun power supply to Mindtree, a leading technology services and digital transformation company.

The solar farm is located in Tumkur district, and has a total capacity of 30 MW. Power will be supplied via the BESCOM grid to consumers in Bangalore like Mindtree.

The supply of solar power began in August, and will satisfy 75% of the power requirement at the Whitefield campus of Mindtree, CleanMax Solar said.

The solar power supply to Mindtree will reduce approximately 2800 tons of carbon footprint annually, and will also generate significant energy cost savings for Mindtree, without incurring any capital expenditure.

CleanMax’s solar farm has been developed under the Karnataka Solar Policy, which waives transmission and wheeling charges and cross-subsidy charges for solar power for 10 years, for solar farms commissioned prior to 31st March, 2018.

CleanMax has already begun work on its second solar farm in the state, and is planning additional installations of more than 200 MW in the state in the next 18 months.

Andrew Hines, head – South India Business Development, CleanMax Solar, said, “It gives us immense pleasure to be associated with Mindtree, a leader in the information technology industry and a firm which is taking serious steps towards sustainability in its operations.”

“We are pleased to be associated with CleanMax Solar to power our energy needs in a sustainable manner. This initiative will be effective in reducing our carbon footprint, while saving costs at minimal investments,” said Padmanabhan Kannan, general manager – Administration and Facilities, Mindtree.
