Tata Power Renewable Energy signs ₹1,200 crore PPA with Tata Power Mumbai

Tata Power energy

Tata Power Renewable Energy, a subsidiary of The Tata Power Company, has signed a ₹1,200 crore Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Tata Power Mumbai Distribution to develop an 80 MW Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) project, with a scheduled execution period of 24 months.

This project will integrate solar, wind and battery storage technologies to deliver electricity reliably during peak demand hours, ensuring grid stability and meeting the evolving energy needs of Mumbai’s consumers. It is expected to generate about 315 million units (MUs) of clean electricity annually, while reducing carbon dioxide emissions by over 0.25 million tonnes per year.

A key technical commitment in the PPA is a 4-hour peak power supply with at least 90  percent availability during peak demand windows, which will help Tata Power Mumbai meet regulatory Renewable Purchase Obligations (RPO) mandated by the State Electricity Regulatory Commission. Once commissioned, the project’s output will feed into Mumbai’s distribution network, serving roughly 8 lakh (800,000) residential, commercial, and industrial customers. With this new project, TPREL’s total renewable utility capacity (including PPA commitments and projects under implementation) is projected at 11.3 GW, with an operational base of about 5.6 GW (4.6 GW solar + 1 GW wind) to date.
