Renewables: TotalEnergies, RWE, Nordex’s 147MW turbine order in Europe

Nordex wind turbine deal

Today’s renewable energy news includes announcements on TotalEnergies, RWE, Nordex’s 147MW turbine order across European projects, among others.

TotalEnergies Expands Caribbean Renewable Footprint with 50% Stake in AES Dominicana Portfolio

TotalEnergies has finalized its acquisition of a 50 percent stake in AES Dominicana Renewables Energy’s solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems (BESS) portfolio, strengthening its presence in the Caribbean. The deal adds to its earlier 2024 acquisition of a 30 percent share in AES’ solar and BESS projects in Puerto Rico, bringing its combined regional portfolio to over 1.5 GW. In the Dominican Republic, TotalEnergies gains access to over 1 GW of contracted renewable assets, including 410 MW operational or under construction, and over 500 MW in development. In Puerto Rico, the company holds 30 percent of 485 MW of solar and BESS projects under construction. These investments align with TotalEnergies’ multi-energy strategy in a region where it is already a major LNG supplier and infrastructure player. The move supports the company’s goal of reaching 35 GW of renewable capacity by 2025 and over 100 TWh of annual electricity production by 2030.

RWE Energises First UK Solar Farm in Devon, Advancing Clean Power Goals with 35 MW Langford Project

RWE has officially energised the Langford Solar Farm in Devon, its first operational solar project in the UK. With a capacity of 35 MW (AC), it will generate approximately 49,500 MWh of electricity annually — enough to power 15,000 UK homes. A 35 MW battery storage system is also under construction on-site. Langford is part of a broader portfolio of 11 solar projects RWE is building in England, totalling nearly 530 MW of solar and 105 MW of battery storage. The project is expected to save over 25,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually, equivalent to the emissions of more than 15,500 cars. The project reflects RWE’s support for the UK’s 2030 Clean Power Mission and its ambition for 45-47GW of solar capacity by the end of the decade. Additionally, Langford Solar Farm includes community and environmental benefits, such as a £40,000 community fund, job creation, and a net gain in biodiversity through species-rich grasslands and wildlife-friendly features.
