Today’s renewable energy news includes announcements on Greece’s PPC, Iberdrola, J-POWER, Zen Energy and HD Renewable, among others.
Greece’s PPC to Expand in Bulgaria with 88 MW Solar Farm
Greece’s Public Power Corporation (PPC) will acquire an 88 MW solar farm in Bulgaria from MYTILINEOS Energy & Metals, strengthening its renewable portfolio. The move is part of a strategic partnership to co-develop up to 2,000 MW of solar capacity across Bulgaria, Italy, Romania, and Croatia. PPC is also constructing the 165 MW Colosseum solar park in Stara Zagora, including a 25 MW/55 MWh battery storage system. Once operational, it will supply 265 GWh annually, power 45,000 homes, and cut emissions by 133,000 tons per year.
Iberdrola Withdraws from 53 MW Solar Project in Poland
Iberdrola has pulled out of a 53 MW solar project in Poland, reflecting a strategic shift in its renewable energy investments. Despite this withdrawal, the company continues to grow its renewable portfolio in the region, recently acquiring an 88 MW solar project from MYTILINEOS Energy & Metals and starting construction on the 165 MW Colosseum solar park in Bulgaria. This move highlights Iberdrola’s focus on optimizing its investments toward markets with favorable regulations and greater growth potential, ensuring a stronger and more sustainable renewable energy presence in Central and Eastern Europe.
J-POWER Activates 30 MW Solar Park in Japan
J-POWER has commenced operations at the 29.99 MW Hibikinada Solar Power Station in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, marking its largest photovoltaic project to date. The ground-mounted facility spans approximately 355,000 m² of reclaimed waterfront land within J-POWER’s Wakamatsu Operations & General Management Office. This development contributes an estimated 40 GWh of clean electricity annually, sufficient to power around 9,000 households and reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 18,000 tonnes per year. The project aligns with J-POWER’s “BLUE MISSION 2050” strategy, which aims for carbon neutrality by mid-century through increased reliance on renewable energy source
Zen Energy and HD Renewable Seek Approval for 200 MW Solar and Battery Project in Australia
Zen Energy and Taiwan’s HD Renewable Energy (HDRE) are seeking regulatory approval for a 200 MW solar photovoltaic farm paired with a 200 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) in Australia. The project aims to enhance grid stability, provide reliable clean power, and support national carbon reduction targets. Once completed, it will supply significant renewable electricity to residential and commercial users, helping manage peak demand. This collaboration underscores growing international investments to expand Australia’s renewable infrastructure and accelerate the country’s clean energy transition.
