Adani Total Gas Unveils Groundbreaking Green Hydrogen Blending Pilot Project in Gujarat

Adani Total Gas

Adani Total Gas (ATGL), a player in the energy and city gas distribution sector, has introduced Green Hydrogen Blending Pilot Project.

This innovative project aims to integrate Green Hydrogen (GH2) into natural gas distribution for more than 4,000 residential and commercial customers in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Green Hydrogen, produced through water electrolysis using renewable energy-generated electricity, is set to revolutionize the existing gas supply system. Despite its lower carbon footprint, GH2 maintains the same heating capacities as conventional gas.

Scheduled for commissioning by Q1 FY24-25, the project will gradually elevate the percentage of green hydrogen in the blend to 8 percent or higher, subject to regulatory clearances. Studies suggest that an 8 percent hydrogen blend could potentially slash emissions by up to 4 percent.

Following the completion of the pilot phase, ATGL plans to expand the distribution of hydrogen-blended fuel to wider segments of the city and other licensed areas. The company intends to collaborate closely with regulatory bodies and various stakeholders to facilitate knowledge sharing and develop a robust ecosystem for hydrogen blending in India’s city gas distribution.

Suresh P Manglani, Executive Director & CEO of Adani Total Gas, emphasized, “This project underscores our commitment to fortifying the national infrastructure, paving the way for India’s journey toward energy independence by 2047.”

The collaboration between the Adani Group and TotalEnergies marks a significant step toward sustainable energy solutions.

Adani Total Gas is a joint venture of Adani Group and French energy giant TotalEnergies.

Adani Total Gas has license to retail CNG to automobiles and piped gas to household kitchens and industries in 38 geographical areas (GAs).

Adani Total Gas has city gas distribution networks in Ahmedabad and Vadodara in Gujarat, Faridabad in Haryana and Khurja in Uttar Pradesh.

In addition, the development of Allahabad, Chandigarh, Ernakulam, Panipat, Daman, Dharwad, and Udhamsingh Nagar gas distribution is awarded to a consortium of Adani Total Gas and Indian Oil Corporation.

ATGL’s 38 GAs cover 8 percent of India’s population. Of the 38 GAs, 19 are managed by ATGL and the rest by Indian Oil-Adani Gas, a joint venture between Adani Total Gas and Indian Oil Corporation.
