Yokogawa grabs UK energy from waste deal

Yokogawa France has won an order from VINCI Environment UK to supply control systems and safety instrumented systems for a waste-to-energy facility, being built for SITA Cornwall in the U.K.

This Cornwall Energy Recovery Centre, in St. Dennis, will start operation in 2016. The facility will be capable of managing 240,000 tons of residual waste every year that generate sufficient electricity to power around 21,000 homes.

Yokogawa will supply the CENTUM VP integrated production control system and the ProSafe-RS safety instrumented system to control the boilers and all auxiliary facilities at this plant.

Yokogawa France will provide support for the installation, commissioning and engineering of the automation systems of facility, working with VINCI Environment UK, EPC Company for this project.

In 2011, Yokogawa received an order from VINCI Environment to supply control systems for VERNEA in central France for Suez Environment Group.

In U.K. and other European countries, waste-to-energy plants are promoted as regulations on the landfill disposal of waste materials are being introduced to protect the environment.

So far, Yokogawa has delivered more than 140 control systems for waste treatment facilities in Japan and other countries. The Cornwall project is Yokogawa’s fourth control system order for a waste-to-energy facility in the U.K.

By leveraging its engineering experience in this field, Yokogawa aims to expand its waste treatment facility control business worldwide, with a focus on Europe, and thereby help to build a sustainable society.

VINCI Environment is a French designer-builder with recognized skills in process design, process engineering and civil engineering, and with more than 350 water treatment units and 80 waste treatment plants in operation.
