NTPC invites tender to set up project on hydrogen and natural gas

NTPC, India’s largest power generating company, has floated a global Expression of Interest (EoI) to set up a Pilot Project on hydrogen blending with natural gas in city gas distribution (CGD) network.

NTPC REL recently floated tenders for green hydrogen fuelling station at Leh. NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam (NVVN) also floated tender for the procurement of fuel cell buses. NTPC REL is also setting up a 1.25 MW solar plant at Leh to power the hydrogen fuelling station.

This pilot on hydrogen blending with natural gas would explore the viability of decarbonizing India’s natural gas grid.

NTPC is exploring production of green ammonia to decarbonize the fertilizer industry and aiming to meet the government’s upcoming mandate of using certain percentage of green hydrogen in fertilizer and refinery sector.

NTPC has completed study on green methanol production at Ramagundam and its is expected to take final investment decision in the near future.
