Waaree Renewable Wins 291 MWp Solar EPC Contract With 280 MWh Battery Storage
Waaree Renewable Technologies has received a Letter of Award for engineering, procurement and construction of a 291 MWp ground-mounted solar PV project coupled with a 280 MWh battery energy storage system in India. The unnamed customer is an Indian thermal power generation company. The EPC project is scheduled for completion during financial year 2027–28. Contract value was not disclosed. Combining 291 MWp of solar with 280 MWh of BESS allows the project to shift part of its photovoltaic generation into periods when electricity demand or market value is higher. The award also demonstrates how conventional power producers in India are increasingly adding renewable generation and storage to their portfolios as the country moves toward dispatchable and hybrid clean-energy procurement.
ACEN and Yanara Secure $36.9 Million for 75 MW Philippine Solar Project
ACEN and Yanara, formerly BrightNight Asia Pacific, have secured PHP 2.3 billion ($36.9 million/€31.7 million) in project financing for construction of a 75 MW solar development in the Philippines. The financing advances another asset within the partners’ renewable-energy pipeline as the Philippines increases solar capacity to meet rising electricity demand and reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels. ACEN, part of the Ayala Group, is one of Southeast Asia’s most active renewable developers, while Yanara develops renewable and hybrid power infrastructure across Asia-Pacific. Financing is a critical milestone because it moves the 75 MW project beyond development toward physical construction. The transaction also demonstrates lender appetite for Philippine utility-scale solar as renewable procurement, corporate demand and government clean-energy targets stimulate project investment.
PowerX and ITOCHU Win 23 MW / 75.2 MWh Battery Order in Japan
Japanese battery manufacturer PowerX and ITOCHU have secured an order for a 23 MW / 75.2 MWh grid-scale battery project in Shiroishi City, Miyagi Prefecture. The facility will use 30 PowerX Mega Power 2500 battery containers, each with nominal capacity of 2,507 kWh, manufactured in Tamano City, Okayama. The battery farm is backed by Tokyu Land Corporation and IBeeT and is targeted to begin operations during fiscal 2028. PowerX says the 75.2 MWh capacity is equivalent to approximately one day of electricity consumption for 7,000 households. The project adds another sizeable grid battery to Japan’s emerging storage market, where BESS investment is increasing to balance solar generation, support electricity trading and improve network flexibility.
