The latest renewable energy news includes announcements from Vattenfall, ABO Energy, Gulermak Renewables, Green Hydrogen Plant in Oulu, and others.

Vattenfall Opens 46 MW Solar Park Under 10-Year Wieland PPA in Germany

Vattenfall has opened the 46 MWp Nauen solar park near Berlin, backed by a 10-year power purchase agreement with copper-products manufacturer Wieland Group. The project comprises approximately 80,000 solar modules across 40 hectares and is expected to generate around 47 GWh of renewable electricity annually. Technical commissioning was completed in June 2026. Wieland will purchase the plant’s entire electricity output, covering approximately 15 percent of the electricity it purchases annually for its German manufacturing operations. Vattenfall developed, built and will continue operating the project. Located around 40 km west of Berlin, Nauen illustrates growing demand for corporate PPAs connecting new renewable capacity directly with energy-intensive manufacturing companies seeking to reduce industrial emissions.

ABO Energy Advances Up to 600 MW Green Hydrogen Plant in Oulu, Finland

ABO Energy and the City of Oulu have signed a cooperation agreement to advance an electrolytic hydrogen project of up to 600 MW in northern Finland. The planned facility would be developed in the Pyyryväinen green-transition zone, expanding in two or three phases. The agreement builds on a site reservation signed in 2025 and establishes cooperation on land-use planning, permitting and wider project development. ABO Energy is also evaluating downstream production of synthetic methanol and sustainable aviation fuel, or e-SAF, potentially turning the site into a broader Power-to-X complex rather than a standalone hydrogen plant. Access to renewable electricity, industrial infrastructure and transport links around Oulu could support large-scale production for domestic industry and export markets.

Gulermak Secures $40.9 Million Financing for 62.7 MW Polish Solar Portfolio

Gulermak Renewables has secured PLN 152.9 million, or about $40.9 million, of non-recourse financing from mBank for five solar projects totalling 62.7 MW in Poland. Project Vistula comprises Brodnica I and II with 49 MW combined, Glinnik I and II with 8.7 MW, and the 5 MW Powidz project. All five plants are under construction, with Powidz expected to enter commercial operation first, later in 2026. The assets benefit from Poland’s government-backed Contract for Difference framework, while Brodnica and Powidz also have a route-to-market agreement with Hekla Energy through 2030. Nomad Electric Group is the EPC subcontractor. Gülermak currently has more than 400 MW of solar, wind and battery assets under development.

Yellow Door Reaches Financial Close on 49 MWp Lion Thorn Solar Project in South Africa

Yellow Door Energy and Nedbank CIB have reached financial close on the 49 MWp Lion Thorn Solar Park in Leeudoringstad, North West province, South Africa, allowing construction to start in September 2026. The project has secured long-term PPAs with PPC and POWERX, a NERSA-licensed private electricity trader. Once operating, Lion Thorn is expected to generate approximately 115 GWh in its first year and avoid around 104,190 tonnes of carbon emissions annually. Commissioning is scheduled for 2028. Nedbank Corporate and Investment Banking is providing the project financing, although the loan amount was not disclosed. The development adds to South Africa’s rapidly growing private-generation market, which represented about R158 billion of investment and 7,464 MW of registered capacity in 2025.
