Romania Allocates €650 Million for Solar and Battery Systems at Public Buildings

Romania plans to distribute €650 million ($754.9 million) through two subsidy programmes supporting solar photovoltaic and battery installations at public-sector buildings. The funding is intended to reduce electricity expenditure, expand distributed renewable generation and improve energy resilience across government facilities. Schools, hospitals, administrative buildings and other eligible public facilities could benefit from solar-plus-storage systems. Adding batteries allows public institutions to retain solar electricity generated during daytime periods and use it when generation falls or electricity demand increases. The programme represents a sizeable market opportunity for solar developers, battery suppliers, EPC companies and equipment manufacturers. It also strengthens Romania’s wider strategy to expand renewable generation and energy storage while modernising its electricity infrastructure and reducing dependence on conventional power sources.

Casa dos Ventos Selects Goldwind Turbines for 872 MW Brazil Wind Farm

Brazilian renewable-energy developer Casa dos Ventos has selected Chinese turbine manufacturer Goldwind to supply equipment for the 872 MW Sento Se wind farm in Bahia state. The agreement represents one of the largest recent wind-turbine supply contracts in Latin America and further strengthens Goldwind’s position in the Brazilian market. Bahia is already one of Brazil’s leading wind-generation regions because of its strong wind resources and expanding transmission infrastructure. The 872 MW development will create a sizeable equipment and construction pipeline while adding significant renewable capacity once operational. The order also demonstrates increasing competition between Chinese and established Western turbine suppliers in major international markets. Brazil remains one of Latin America’s most important destinations for investment in utility-scale wind and solar projects.

Flower Starts Construction of 100 MW / 400 MWh Hamburg Battery

Swedish energy-technology company Flower has started construction of a 100 MW / 400 MWh battery energy storage system in Hamburg, Germany, which is expected to become the city’s largest battery facility. With four hours of storage capacity, the project will help balance electricity supply and demand while supporting Germany’s growing wind and solar fleet. Large-scale batteries can absorb surplus renewable electricity during periods of high production and release it when demand or electricity prices increase. Germany is rapidly emerging as one of Europe’s largest battery-storage markets because renewable penetration, grid congestion and volatile wholesale prices are increasing the value of flexible capacity. Flower’s 400 MWh project demonstrates the trend toward larger and longer-duration batteries capable of providing multiple grid and energy-market services.
