Recurrent Energy Commissions 200 MWp Villameca Solar Project in Spain
Recurrent Energy, a subsidiary of Canadian Solar, has commenced commercial operations at its 200 MWp Villameca photovoltaic project in Castilla y León, Spain. The facility is expected to generate approximately 359,172 MWh of electricity annually, equivalent to consumption by more than 100,000 households. Estimated annual carbon dioxide emissions avoidance is approximately 57,000 tonnes. Villameca joins the company’s 426 MWp Rey Solar project in Andalucía. Its 315 MWp Tordesillas project is expected to connect to the grid later in 2026. Together, these developments are expected to increase Recurrent Energy’s operating Spanish solar portfolio to approximately 1 GW by year-end. The company also plans to integrate battery storage at Villameca.
Greencoat UK Wind Acquires Remaining 20% Stake in 96.4 MW Wind Portfolio for £10.5 Million
Greencoat UK Wind has acquired the remaining 20 percent interest in a 96.4 MW portfolio of five operational British wind farms from EDF Invest. The transaction was valued at approximately £10.5 million and financed through Greencoat’s existing cash generation. The acquisition increases Greencoat’s ownership of the portfolio to 100 percent, following its original purchase of an 80 percent interest in 2017. The portfolio includes Deeping St Nicholas, Red House, Glass Moor, Red Tile and Bicker Fen wind farms near Peterborough, England. EDF power solutions will continue providing operations and maintenance services. The companies will also examine potential turbine repowering opportunities to extend the assets’ operating lives.
Metlen and Karatzis Inaugurate 330 MW/790 MWh Battery Storage Facility in Greece
Greek energy companies Metlen Energy & Metals and Karatzis Group inaugurated a 330 MW/790 MWh standalone battery energy storage facility in Larissa, Thessaly, on October 14. The installation is Greece’s largest standalone battery project and one of the largest in Europe. The facility was developed through a joint investment vehicle owned 49 percent by Metlen and 51 percent by Karatzis Group. Metlen was responsible for construction and will manage operations and maintenance. The project received financing support through the European Union’s Recovery and Resilience Facility. Its electricity output was integrated into Greece’s transmission system in August 2026. The battery will provide electricity storage, grid balancing and flexibility services supporting renewable generation.
