Orygen’s 94.22 MW Wayra Solar Project Reaches Full-Capacity Grid Testing in Peru
Peruvian renewable-energy producer Orygen has advanced grid commissioning of its 94.22 MW Wayra Solar project in Nasca Province, southern Peru. Contractor PowerChina reported full-capacity grid-connected generation during testing from September 19, with the development disclosed internationally in October. The photovoltaic installation forms part of the 403.52 MW Wayra Renewable Energy Complex, alongside the Wayra I and Wayra Extension wind farms. Annual solar electricity production is estimated at approximately 250–256 GWh. The project has entered energisation and testing, with commercial operation targeted for Q4 2026. Orygen’s wider renewable portfolio includes approximately 309 MW of wind capacity and 799 MW of hydropower. Final commercial commissioning remains pending.
Tunisia Launches Tender for 50 MW Solar Plant with 20 MWh Battery Storage
Tunisia’s state electricity utility, Société Tunisienne de l’Électricité et du Gaz (STEG), has launched an international tender for a 50 MWac photovoltaic plant with a 10 MW/20 MWh battery storage system at Beni Mhira in Tataouine Governorate. The procurement was published on October 13, 2026, with bids due on December 10. The project includes engineering, equipment supply, installation, testing, commissioning, a 33/225 kV substation and approximately 1.2 kilometres of transmission infrastructure. Financing is supported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The construction programme is expected to take approximately 18 months. The project is separate from Tunisia’s procurement for 300 MW/600 MWh of standalone batteries across ten substations.
EnergyX Signs $2 Billion Lithium Supply Agreement with Trafigura for US and Chile Projects
US lithium technology developer EnergyX has signed a $2 billion, 10-year binding lithium offtake agreement with commodities trader Trafigura. Announced October 12, the agreement covers 100,000 tonnes of battery-grade lithium products, divided between lithium hydroxide and lithium carbonate. Supplies will originate from planned EnergyX production facilities in Chile and Texas. Commercial production is targeted for 2028 in Chile and 2029 in Texas. Trafigura will purchase approximately 33 percent of planned US output and 66 percent of Chilean production. EnergyX develops direct lithium extraction technology for battery materials. The company is also pursuing additional financing, including a proposed $690 million US Export-Import Bank loan.
